Local Plan and Neighourhood Plan Updates

Local Plan

The Newcastle Under Lyme Local Plan (2020- 2040) was submitted to the Secretary of State in December 2024. An independent inspector has been appointed to consider the local plan and its supporting evidence. They will decide whether the plan meets the soundness and legal compliance tests.

Hearings were held during May and June to hear evidence from the Borough Council and other stakeholders. At the end of the examination the Inspector will send a report to the Borough Council recommending whether they can adopt the plan or not. In most cases the report recommends some changes that are necessary to allow the plan to be adopted. It is thought that the report will be published in the Autumn.

Neighbourhood Plan

Progress is continuing on developing the Silverdale Neighbourhood Plan. The Parish Council and a steering group are continuing to gather information that will be used in the evidence base for the Neighbourhood Plan.

Consultants from AECOM have produced a Design Code report. We are now working with Urban Vision Enterprise on a draft of the Neighbourhood Plan.

The Parish Council will hold consultation events with local residents and businesses later in the year.

There is a Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group with Parish and Ward Councillors and up to 6 residents involved. It meets once each the month in Silverdale Library to do forward planning and community engagement. We ask for new volunteers to contact the Chair, Henryk Adamczuk.
